Career in a Year™ Program

Greater Johnstown Career & Technology Center has provided training programs for adults for 40 years and is proud to have helped thousands of people improve their skills in their current job or to train for a new career. We offer financial aid for many of our programs. Our flagship Career in a Year™ program allows adults to complete their education in 6 to 12 months.

Our adult-only and intergenerational Career in a Year™ programs offer specialized training in many vocational and technical areas. Many of our programs are articulated with local colleges for associate degree status, including Mount Aloysius College, Saint Francis University, and Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.

Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act was designated to protect the privacy of educational records, to establish the right of students to inspect and review their education records, and to provide guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data through informal and formal hearings. Students also have the right to file complaints with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act Office (FERPA) concerning alleged failures by the institution to comply with the act.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), as amended, prohibits GJCTC from sharing information about you with other individuals unless you provide us with written authorization. Grades and information concerning your enrollment status cannot be released, except to state and federal agencies requesting specific information necessary to service you appropriately. Transcripts are only released with your written authorization.

We recognize that this limitation may cause occasional inconvenience to you, your family, and other interested parties, but we are bound by law to protect your right to privacy.

Official student records are established and maintained in a number of administrative offices for a variety of legitimate educational purposes. All records kept concerning students, including those records originating at other colleges or universities, or those records required for admission or transfer credit evaluation, are the property of the Greater Johnstown Career & Technology Center.

GJCTC has designated the following student information as public or "Directory Information". Such information may be disclosed by the school at its discretion to individuals, agencies, and institutions for purposes relating to activities approved by and associated with GJCTC. This information may be released without the prior consent of a student:

Currently enrolled students have the right to withhold disclosure of all (not partial) categories of public information. To withhold disclosure, written notification must be received in the Adult Education Office prior to the end of the second week for the semester or summer session in which the withholding of Directory Information is to take effect. Students are cautioned that withholding information can have adverse consequences when we are unable to verify attendance or degrees to agencies, insurance companies, or prospective employers. Former students and alumni are not covered under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. Therefore, the school is not obligated to honor requests for non-disclosure of public information from former students.
