History

The Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center, also known as the Greater Johnstown Area Vocational-School, has been in continuous operation since 1970. Our 300,000 square foot facility contains areas routinely associated with educational institutions, such as a library, dining area, auditorium, and gymnasium. It also houses over 30 specially designed technical training areas used to enhance the educational opportunities available.

The Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center has been a tremendous resource for our community. Not only have thousands of high school students successfully graduated to find excellent opportunities in the job market, but thousands of adults have successfully trained for careers in many diverse fields. Traditionally, dozens of area businesses, as well as those located outside our local area, have updated employees' skills utilizing our post-secondary and specialized training programs. Adult Basic Education (ABE) courses are also available for those who need to "brush up" before becoming involved in skill training. A variety of short-term course offerings allow an individual to get needed educational skills quickly.

Recently, the advent of "tech prep" (technological preparation for post- secondary education) has developed into articulation agreements with area colleges, allowing students attending our post-secondary classes to receive credit toward an associate degree.

For the future, our school anticipates meeting the country's need for skilled, high-tech employees, prepared to meet the needs of a demanding economy.
